Masterpieces of French Cinema

In conjunction with the Impressionism exhibition, our seven-week series highlights such masters as Jean Renoir, Jean-Luc Godard, and Alain Resnais. Join us for flicks from the silent era to the New Wave and beyond, hosted by Boulder Weekly film critic Thomas Delapa. Tuesdays, Sept. 28-Nov. 9
Two showings each Tuesday, 4:30 pm and 7:30 pm

Series tickets may be purchased at the DAM beginning Sept. 7th - $35 for DAM members, $40 nonmembers. Individual tickets $6 DAM members, $7 nonmembers purchased at the door, on a space available basis.

Impressionism
The masterpieces of impressionism were not well received in their own time. Join Gwen Chanzit, DAM Associate Curator of Modern and Contemporary Art, as she takes a look at what was so radical about the work of Monet, Degas, Renoir, and other impressionists, as well as post-impressionists like Cezanne and Gauguin.

Sketching on Sundays

Spend four relaxing Sundays in our galleries coaxing your imagination out of hiding.

We'll sketch on a different floor of the museum every week. You'll get to use your growing skills to render impressionistic paintings and sculpture. Come to enjoy yourself, whatever your level of experience. Beginners welcome!

Studio Sampler
Impressionistic Watercolors
Paint with watercolors in the style of Monet, Degas, and Renoir. Capture a moment in time, and immerse yourself in color. You'll look at this fall's Impressionism exhibition in a whole new light.

Studio Classes
Watercolor for Beginners
A great introduction for anyone who's always wanted to try watercolor. Learn about the basics of composition and color, and find out how to do washes and use various brushes. Discover talents you didn't know you had, and end up with your own finished watercolors.

Oil Painting for Novices

Chuck Ceraso starts you off with the basics-how to use brushes and the palette knife and how to mix colors and mass form.

After looking at oils in this fall's Impressionism exhibition for inspiration, you'll make simple still-life paintings in several styles.

Impressionist Landscapes
Make your own masterpiece using the techniques of Monet and Pissarro.

Impressionist Playground
Imagine yourself in a place where trees are violet and the sky is the color of fresh butter. Look out at a bridge over a purple pond. Turn colors upside-down and inside-out in a painted world of your own.

Fooling the Eye
Impressionist colors leap off the canvas. Learn how Monet painted glittering sunlight and how Degas captured the glow of stage lights. Play with brushstrokes, color, and texture, and make treasures of your own.
